Joining Forces with Dairyland Laboratories

The Feed Lab at The Dairy Authority is now equipped to serve our client dairies with more powerful information and efficient service through our partnership with Dairyland Laboratories.

At The Dairy Authority, we strive to provide comprehensive laboratory services to support every aspect of running a dairy.

That’s why we’re thrilled to announce our new partnership with Dairyland Laboratories, Inc., based in Arcadia, Wis., to enhance our Feed Lab services.

Dairyland Laboratories is indeed a fixture in “dairyland,” with primary or affiliated labs in eight locations across the United States – Arcadia, Wis.; St. Cloud, Minn.; Battle Creek, Mich.; DePere, Wis.; Stratford, Wis.; Lancaster, Pa.; and now, Greeley, Colo.

With more than 65 years in the feed & forage analysis business, Dairyland Laboratories brings a wealth of experience in assessing feed and forage characteristics for dairy farms and their nutritionists. They specialize in near infrared reflectance (NIR) spectroscopy analysis, along with wet chemistry for feed and forages, feed hygiene, and manure analysis for apparent digestibility and fecal starch.

Using their services won’t look much different than working with our lab does today. You or your nutritionist will still send your feed samples to our Greeley location, and we will process them here according to Dairyland Laboratories’ standards and specifications. You will see enhancements in the reports you receive from Dairyland Laboratories, and your sample results  will be benchmarked against their massive, nationwide database.

Their NIR calibrations are based on their extensive and ever-growing body of wet chemistry work. Because they analyze so many samples, Dairyland Laboratories has one of the most robust NIR calibration databases in the world. They offer highly reliable results at a reasonable price with quick turnaround times.

The NIR options offered by Dairyland Laboratories include:

  1. NIR Basic: Relative Feed Value (RFV)
  2. NIR Select: RFV plus Relative Feed Quality (RFQ)
  3. NIR Complete: RFV, RFQ, and full analysis of commodities and/or forages, with digestibility timepoints specific to either the CNCPS or NASEM model.

Reports can be generated in the user’s preferred format, and delivered to the dairy, herd nutritionist, or both. The data also can be managed for easy importation into various herd management software programs.

The Dairyland Laboratories team also understands the importance of responsiveness during silage harvest, and staff up accordingly for that season. They are extremely attentive to detail and work with the end user in mind. We share a common passion for serving the dairy community, and look forward to partnering with them.

“We are excited to have The Dairy Authority join the Dairyland Laboratories network,” said Laura Kieser, account manager for Dairyland Laboratories. “Their highly capable staff and excellent customer service will allow customers in the West to access our deep dataset, through a trusted local source, with minimal turnaround times.”
